iPhone 3G price & availability in the Philippines

Last August 6, Globe Telecom announced the official release date of the iPhone 3G in the Philippines. The sale date is on August 22, 2008. Globe is suggesting that people start reserving their unit of the iPhone 3G in order to get an early take.

The catch, however, are the pricing plans made available to Globe Subscribers:

The pricing is as follows for the 2-year locked prepaid kits:

Php41,889 for 8GB iPhone 3G
Php48,889 for 16GB iPhone 3G

* Comes with 50 hours of free mobile internet. Includes Php200 free load per month for 5 months. The Php5 per 15 minutes 3G charging also applies.

For Globe Postpaid Plans:

Plan 1599: Php1,599/month (Php16,800 for 8GB and Php22,300 for 16GB)
Plan 2199: Php2,199/month (Php14,600 for 8GB and Php20,000 for 16GB)
Plan 3299: Php3,299/month (Php12,300 for 8GB and Php17,800 for 16GB)

Text for SSS Updates to your Mobile

You can now receive updates to your SSS contributions via SMS. Just follow the ff. instructions on how to get your SSS online:

Text SSS

Text-SSS is a short messaging service (SMS)-based information service system that allows members to inquire about their number of contributions, status of loan applications, salary loan payment period and loan balances using text messaging.

For a minimal text fee of P2.50 per inquiry sent through text messaging, a member can now have an alternate means of getting information without having to visit an SSS office.

Text-SSS is available for Globe, Smart and Talk ‘N Text subscribers only.

To receive updates on contributions, the member should key in the following text message, filling in the appropriate information for SS number and date of birth:

SSS (space) CONTRI (space) SS NUMBER (space) DATE OF BIRTH [using the MMDDYYYY format], then send to 288 (Smart/ Talk ‘N Text) or 2931 (Globe).

To determine the status of a member’s salary loan application, the member should key in the following text message, filling in the appropriate information for SS number and date of birth:

SSS (space) SLSTAT (space) SS NUMBER (space) DATE OF BIRTH [using the MMDDYYYY format], then send to 288 (Smart/ Talk ‘N Text) or 2931 (Globe).

To get information on salary loan payment period, the member should key in the following text message, filling in the appropriate information for SS number and date of birth:

SSS (space) LPERIOD (space) SS NUMBER (space) DATE OF BIRTH [using the MMDDYYYY format], then send to 288 (Smart/ Talk ‘N Text) or 2931 (Globe).

To get information on loan balance, the member should key in the following text message, filling in the appropriate information for SS number and date of birth:

Globe Visibility is now offering prepaid mobile 3G internet to subscribers with a flat rate of Php5 per 15 mins.

NO installation fee.

Includes 1 Visibility USB Modem and 1 SIM.

Free P30 load good for 6 internet sessions (1 session = 15 minutes) equivalent to 1.5 hours of continuous internet time.

Mobile internet access connections available include GPRS, EDGE, 3G, and HSDPA. Free hours are applicable to browsing within the Philippines only.

Mobile Internet rate in excess of the free hours is charged at P5 for 15 minutes.

SIM is Call, Text, Value-Added Service and charged based on standard Prepaid rates.

Can be reloaded at all Globe Business Centers and Autoload Max Retailers or using Share-A-Load or GCash.

Cost: Php4,500 one time and 5 pesos for every 15 minutes.

Globe, Apple to offer iPhone in the Philippines

In a short announcement this afternoon, Globe Telecom reveals it will offer the iPhone in the Philippines this year. No details yet but this short cryptic press release:

Globe, SingTel, Bharti Airtel and Optus to bring iPhone to the region

Manila, 12 May 2008 – Globe, SingTel, Bharti Airtel and Optus today announced that they have signed an agreement with Apple to bring the iPhone to the Philippines, Singapore, India, and Australia later this year.

More information will be released at a later date.

Globe 3G goes 5 Pesos for 15 Minutes

Mobile broadband for Globe GPRS and 3G has gotten cheaper. You can now sign up for Globe’s 15 minutes of data charging for 5 pesos. That equals Smart 3G 10 pesos per 30 minutes charging.

To activate this new charging scheme, just send text “time” to 1111. You will then get a confirmation that you’ll be charged Php5.00 for every 15 minutes (activation within 1 hour), otherwise you’ll still be billed on a per KB basis.

Globe 3G

This promo is different from Globe Visibility which is unlimited for Php3,000 a month.
